Renault's best-selling van, Trafic, is riding high following its latest trophy win, this time leaving rivals trailing in its wake in the 'Heavy Van' category at the 2009 British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards.
Hosted by Thatcham, the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre, the prestigious awards, which were established in 2004, are supported by the Home Office, Department for Transport and The AA Motoring Trust, giving an independent view of a vehicle's security features to protect against break-ins and theft.
For the first time, vans were eligible in this year's awards, making Trafic's inaugural win even more impressive. Based on the New Vehicle Security Ratings (NVSR) scheme, thanks to its wide range of standard fit security features, Trafic achieved a maximum five stars in the 'Theft Of' section, and four in the 'Theft From'.
Renault's Trafic comes equipped with an impressive array of security features including anti-drill door locks and barrels, Thatcham category 1 alarm and immobiliser system, remote central locking with deadlocking, full steel bulkheads and R.A.I.D. (Renault Anti Intruder Device), which automatically locks all the vehicles doors once travelling above 5 mph. A three-button key with selective door opening is also available as an option, to combat opportunistic thieves while the vehicle is being unloaded.
